Writing Assignment 11

Kylee Lightle, girlfriend, 21, Evil eye charm, 05/08/2026

This is my girlfriend, Kylee. We met almost two years ago and have been together a little over a year and a half ago. She works here in Lawrence as a hairstylist at Wildflower Salon on Massachusetts St., and the object I most closely relate to her is an evil eye charm that she gave me on our first date. Being a hairstylist who loves vivid hair colors, she is often sporting a new color every few weeks. My personal favorite so far is the red and black she has here. She loves cheetah print clothes, with many of her favorite tops and shoes sporting the print. When we walk through any store together, we take an extra 30 minutes minimum because she wants to make sure that we aren’t forgetting anything and wants to examine everything on the aisle. She is the perfect height for me to rest my head on hers without my neck hurting.

The evil eye charm was a foreign gift to me, initially. When I asked her to remind me what it was for, she said,

“It has to be given as a gift; you can’t just buy one for yourself. It’s a protection item. If something bad is about to happen to you, the bad energy from the bad event transfers to the charm and the charm breaks instead, saving you from whatever was about to happen to you.”

To this day, I keep the charm in my wallet. While I don’t believe in superstition, when I got into a car wreck a few months after she gave it to me, I wasn’t hurt at all and there was a small crack on the backside of the charm.
